Stuck or dissatisfied with the color combination you’ve chosen for your project? Say hello to Adobe Color; it’s here to help you now.
Explore and Create
Adobe Color is already a good starting point for inspiration. Go to the Explore tab on the website for inspiration. You can even filter them based on popularity and recency. If a particular color combination captures your imagination, you can personalize it by clicking on “Create using Theme” option.
The Create tab is where the magic happens. You have the power to fine-tune each color individually or make global adjustments, all while working with HSB, RGB, or LAB color modes. You can control brightness and darkness, ensuring that each hue is perfectly in sync with your vision. You can explore various color harmony rules to discover new palettes that harmonize with your chosen shade.
Extracting Themes from Images
Adobe Color takes creativity a step further with its ‘Extract Theme‘ feature. This tool generates a color palette from any photo or image you upload. You can easily copy the hex codes to your clipboard, download an ASE file, or save it to your Adobe libraries if you’re logged in.
How I Use It for My Designs
Let’s say I want to place a pre-selected sofa in my living room, where I’d like to choose some other furniture or art complementing it.
- I would take a screenshot of the sofa, and put it in the Extract Theme option under the Create tab.
- After uploading the image, you can see various color combination suggestions -based on the Color mood- to choose from. This is a good start.
- If we want additional colors we can go to the Color Wheel. Here you can choose from various Color Harmonies, adjust the Base Color by clicking on the small triangles in the color cubes.
- You can select from the Tints of individual colors, and other color settings as well.
Extra Tip:
If you’re looking for freely usable images for your gallery wall that match the selected colors, Pexels can assist you in searching for images based on HEX codes related to your chosen theme.
